Türkiye celebrates 100th anniversary of the Republic

Cyprus International University (CIU)  held a conference on the "The Republic’s Centennial and the Values of the Republic" on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic. 
At the opening of the event held at the Conference Hall of CIU Çevik Uraz Center, the Rector of CIU Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri,  Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Kaan Erler and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences  Prof. Dr. Harun Şeşen delivered speeches.   
In his speech, Rector Nadiri stated that they are honored to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and said, "The foundations of our Republic were laid with the determination and sacrifice of our nation, under the leadership of the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk." Pointing out that Ataturk's ideas were effective not only across the Turkish world but all over the world, Nadiri reminded that the Turkish Cypriot people also took as an example the Republic of Türkiye’s struggle for independence. Nadiri also gave the message that the university’s mission of providing education in accordance with contemporary world standards in the light of science, conducting research and serving the society will continue strongly with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

Prof. Dr. Erler, in his speech, talked about the steps taken in the field of health in the 100-year period and stated that they transformed from a country struggling with many infectious diseases with a limited number of health workers to a country creating reforms in the field of health with an experienced and competent staff.

Stating that we have reached the level of civilized countries in the field of medicine, as in every field in line with the principles shown by Atatürk since the foundation of the Republic, Erler said, "We have absolute faith in the youth in the many centuries to come who will continue to accomplish these principles set forth by the Founder of the Republic under the guidance of reason, science and technology.”

In his speech Prof. Dr. Şeşen talked about the economic developments in the country in the last century, stating that there have been changes in the level of marketing in the country, radical changes in the economic structure in the sectoral context, and there have also been changes in the  degree of expansion in the economy.  Speaking about the negativities caused by the economic legacy that the Republic of Türkiye inherited from the Ottoman Empire, Şeşen noted that the point reached today is very good with the development plans created over the course of 100 years. Şeşen expressed his belief that the reforms created especially in the field of infrastructure, trained manpower, strengthened institutions, technological competence, entrepreneurial spirit open to innovation and economy will create a stronger country in the next century.
