The Cyprus International University (CIU) folklor/edebiyat journal, that is featured in important directories such as Ulakbim and Scopus, has published its special issue on Women’s Studies and Gender, via the organization of the CIU Women and Gender Studies Research Center (WGSRC).
The special issue that has the contributions of guest expert editors from abroad and is reported to be an important source of information to the field in question, has given space to 17 original articles, an interview with Prof. Dr. Hanife Aliefendioğlu, and a book review.
The journal, which is 400 pages in volume, has been presented to the world with the research of Turkey’s and TRNC’s reputable academicians and experts, following an extensive peer review/evaluation process.
The statement of CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, which was published in the journal, states that the purpose of the special issue is to reflect the importance of studies on women, emphasizing the sensitivity of the university upon this subject, and to enable scientific studies on this subject to reach other researchers, scientists, and decision makers.
Nadiri also noted, “This issue has been a valuable effort in the subject of Women and Gender, with the contributions of working field experts that are current upon the related subject, examining the problems of subjects that are within the journals publishing area, and in making determinations and suggesting solutions”.
Speaking in relation to the preparation process and importance of the special issue, CIU Women and Gender Research Center President Assist. Prof. Dr. Mihrican Aylanç stated, “Women on earth; as well as their fight for equality, are constantly in an effort to support and encourage the sustainability of programs on health, education, and environment. In our special issue, as a partner in these efforts, we have opened to discussion the different perspectives of scientists on the position, status, and problems of women”.
Stating that they shed new light in relation to how women can overcome difficulties in life, both in line with the indicators of ethnographic field studies and with the focus of feminist perspectives, Aylanç concluded, “We tried to show how gender studies combine with the efforts of academics from different disciplines, who are building a better country in terms of science, education, arts, technology, and innovation”.
In her statement, Aylanç also thanked the CIU administration, the folklor/edebiyat journal, and the guest editor Prof. Dr. Hande Birkalan-Gedik, for their contributions in the special issue.
