Prof. Dr. Banu Elçin Yoldaşcan, on the Corona Virus from the Agenda of the Whole World
Prof. Dr. Banu Elçin Yoldaşcan, academic staff from the Department of Public Health and Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, Cyprus International University (CIU) has made statements about the coronavirus seen in China, which is also on the agenda of the whole world.
Yoldaşcan said patients carrying a virus, whose causative virus is unknown, and carrying the signs of an acute viral respiratory infection such as fever, malaise, cough, difficulty in breathing, and so on has been reported in December in Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China. The Chinese authorities explained in the media that the cause of this viral pneumonia is a new type of coronavirus, unlike other human coronaviruses that were initially discovered.
Prof. Dr. Yoldaşcan highlighted that we are not yet at risk from the outbreak of China, and at airports around the world, those who come from places at risk of disease, are gone through intensive checks at border crossings.
Also, in terms of protecting personal and community health, we should be careful to protect ourselves from acute respiratory infections common in these seasons, and precautions must be taken, especially regarding hand and respiratory hygiene. It is important to avoid close contact with people with acute respiratory infections, fever, and cough, and hands should be cleaned frequently using alcohol-based hand antiseptics, soap, and water.
It is important to cover the mouth and nose with disposable wipes while coughing and sneezing and also those with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek immediate medical attention.
Prof. Dr. Yoldaşcan said while the cause of pneumonia appears to be a new coronavirus, the potential for transmission and routes of transmission remains unclear. For this reason, if you are traveling, you should avoid direct unprotected contact with surfaces that come into contact with animals, avoid consuming raw or undercooked animal products, raw meat, milk or offal, avoid sick people where cases occur, and avoid direct contact with the environment when visiting live or dead animal markets in areas where new cases of coronavirus occur.
