“Missing Fetine” documentary screening at CIU
Department of Radio, Television and Cinema of Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Communication screened the documentary titled "Missing Fetine" and this was followed by an interview with the narrator of the film Pembe Menteş, and the film director Yeliz Şükrü.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Göral Erinç Fundalar, the Chairperson of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema stated that the documentary titled "Missing Fetine" is a film that documents courageously by shedding light on a shadowy point in the history of Cypriot women that has not been talked about extensively until today, and noted that the documentary is an important work that raises awareness.
Fundalar stated that there was a significant attendance in the documentary screening and said, "I think that the interest of our students and academic staff, who participated with their questions, is promising in terms of being able to look at our history open-heartedly in terms of both basic human rights and women's rights and also to determine the issues that we need to work on courageously as a society."
In her speech at the event, Pembe Menteş, the narrator of the film, reminded that she has been working on such an emotionally intense subject for many years, and stated that the motivation she needed came from the support and encouragement of the documentary's director, Yeliz Şükrü, as well as a basic sense of responsibility she felt for the subject.
Director Yeliz Şükrü shared the information after the screenings of the documentary, thanks to the Facebook page of the documentary many Cypriot families contacted them and asked for help, adding that they had managed to bring four or five families together with their personal efforts so far, but that they did not have enough resources and expertise to conduct large-scale research. She noted that this issue is so important that it needs to be addressed systematically at the level of state institutions.
