The Migration Research Institute visits CIU CYPMED
Nikolett Ponzvalto and Mark Vergha, who are researchers of the Institute for Migration Studies based in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, visited the Cyprus International University (CIU), Cyprus and Mediterranean Studies Center (CYPMED).
Ponzvalto and Vergha, who met with the CYPMED Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sertaç Sonan, gained detailed information in relation to the studies of the center, the research performed with doctoral students, and the data obtained from the research.
Explaining that he provided information to the guest researchers in relation to the research performed by the center upon the Cyprus problem in general, and particularly in relation to the subject of migration, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sonan added that the guest researchers also performed examinations within the campus.
Sonan provided information in relation to the projects carried out within the center together with researchers Enis Porat and Ebru Küçükşener, and in light of these studies, advised the visiting researchers of the effects of migration upon the political culture, values, belonging, and priorities of the Cyprus problem solution in the northern part of Cyprus.
Sonan stated that together with the guest researchers, they evaluated the recent developments within Turkish Cypriot politics and the Cyprus problem
During the visit, the guest researchers gave information in relation to their own center and their studies, and an exchange of ideas occurred in relation to particularly the recent refugee movements in the Eastern Mediterranean.
During the meeting, it was also agreed upon to maintain communication between the Cyprus and Mediterranean Studies Center and the Institute for Migration Research, regarding any possible future cooperation.
