Joint Projects and training activities between CIU HSPES and Levent Schools Physical Education and Sports Group have begun

Cyprus International University (CIU) High School of Physical Education and Sports (HSPES) and the Levent Schools Physical Education and Sports Group organized a meeting for joint projects.

Director of CIU HSPES, Prof. Dr. Ali Emre Erol and the director of the Levent Schools Physical Education and Sports Group, Serkan Biran, who chaired the meeting, initiated efforts in order to motivate children while distance education continues, and for them to continue their education efficiently.

Pointing out that there has been an unpleasant process experienced due to the Covid-19 epidemic, Prof. Dr. Erol stated that their aim with relation to the joint efforts was to transform the environment into that of a pleasant and beneficial one, for students, parents, and teachers.

Explaining that they aim to begin this process with physical and recreational activities that can be performed outdoors, Erol went on to note, “Immediately after, we will begin the agreed upon information meetings and training programs”.

Stating that he initially assisted in the meeting of the faculty members of the high school and the teachers of the Levent Schools Physical Education and Sports, Prof. Dr. Erol noted that the pre-meeting and scheduling were also completed for the joint efforts.

In a statement made during the meeting, Director Serkan Biran said, “Evaluating the importance of sports and physical activity during the pandemic period and normalization process, we went on to make plans for our students".

Stating that children, adolescents, and adults have experienced social and psychological problems created by the pandemic period, Biran went on to say, “We have observed that there has been an increased tendency in inactivity, eating disorders, and obesity during this process, with individuals experiencing stress and tension”.

Reminding that moving and doing sports are the most important factors in eliminating these problems, Biran continued, “As well as secreting the happiness hormone, sports also plays an important role in our being better, healthy, and understanding individuals”.

Emphasizing that they are planning individual, or family-children orientated recreational activities for this period, Biran concluded, “We have also included information-based activities within our programs, in order to improve a more positive attitude and perspective towards sports, promoting the idea that sports is a game”.
