Explaining the importance of recycling to Osman Örek Vocational High School students

Cyprus International University (CIU) hosted Osman Örek Vocational High School 10th and 11th grade students from the IT, Installation and Electricity department.

At the event held at the Çevik Uraz Center Conference Hall, Roya Alagheband, from the Faculty of Fine Arts, informed the students about the 'Sustainable Campus for Students' recycling project emphasizing that recycling is not an option but it is a requirement in today’s world.

Within the scope of the project, Alagheband also explained that We Are Nature Cafe is a model designed for environment, economy and cultural sustainability to increase the awareness of students.

Roya Alagheband continued her words by saying that they produce many recycling products such as furniture, old pens, notebooks, reusable shopping bags in design workshops.

During the university visit, which took place under the supervision of Osman Örek Vocational High School Director, and teachers, Erdoğan Keskindağ, Ayşegül Bükük, and Özge Eliz, students stated that they could do different projects within the scope of sustainability in their schools with the information they got from CIU academics.

After the training, students also had the opportunity to examine the workshops where recycling projects were carried out at CIU.

Osman Örek Vocational High School student Simge Satmaz expressed that they listened to a very useful presentation at CIU and said: "We learned the importance of recycling our plastic bottles instead of throwing them away".
