Environmental Protection Week: Keep our planet clean

Prof. Dr. Rana Kıdak who is a faculty member in the Environmental Engineering Program of Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Engineering, spoke within the scope of the 5-11 June Environmental Protection Week and stated that this day was organized by the United Nations Environment Program to encourage individuals, communities, businesses and governments to take environmentally friendly actions.
Dr. Kıdak emphasized that Environmental Protection Week provides an important platform to draw attention to environmental problems and that these problems include climate change, loss of biodiversity, water pollution, air pollution and deforestation.
Kıdak also reminded that Environmental Protection Week is celebrated every year within the framework of a certain theme and stated that this year's theme is "Fighting against Plastic Pollution". 
Kıdak pointed out that plastic waste not only poses a great threat to the seas and oceans but also negatively affects biodiversity. She emphasized that it is important to reduce plastic use and encourage recycling practices.
Kıdak also reminded that various events have been organized around the world within the scope of Environmental Protection Week, and noted that in this context, CIU Environment Club is working to increase students' environmental awareness and to become advocates of environmentally friendly policies in the future.
Stating that every individual has responsibilities regarding environmental protection, Kıdak said: "Reducing plastic use, reducing waste by recycling, saving energy, keeping water consumption under control and choosing environmentally friendly products are among the simple but effective actions that individuals can practice."
Kıdak said that it is important to choose reusable water bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles or reduce carbon footprints by using public transportation, adding, "In addition, we can reach wider audiences by sharing informative content on social media platforms to increase environmental awareness."
To conclude, Kıdak pointed out the importance of taking an active role on this issue by exhibiting environmentally friendly behaviors and pointed out that these approaches are necessary for a sustainable future. Kıdak stated that we should take responsibility for the protection of the environment and work together for a greener and healthier world.
