CIU hosted Actress Hazar Ergüçlü

Famous actress Hazar Ergüçlü met with CIU students at the event organized by the Theater Club that is affiliated to the  Social Activities and Student Clubs Coordinators’ Office of the Student Development and Counseling Center (SDCC). After the talk, CIU Theater Club performed the play “The Zoo Story” written by Edward Albee and directed by Selhan Ege Erdikut on the occasion of March 27th World Theater Day.

"Women and Art" was the theme of Hazar Ergüçlü’s talk where she mentioned  the specific processes she went through in order to be  considered within the framework of what is described as women's participation in art, the world of art or its environs, and she shared with CIU students her own experiences in this journey.

Ergüçlü also stated that female actors are at a more disadvantageous position  compared to their male counterparts, and said, “If you are a woman, you already lack talent. It’s because of favoritism you’re there. Someone has your back. Somebody will definitely find a flaw."

Ergüçlü pointed out that we need to fight against discrimination, and said, “We should not give up. Do not give up on any profession. Acting is an area with a lot of ups and downs. It is necessary to work tirelessly."

Following the talk, the CIU Theater Club performed the one-act absurd drama "The Zoo Story" to art lovers.

Theater Club Director Selhan Ege Erdikut stated that this was the first time they have put on stage a  play labeled as an example of psycho-drama and noted that they had worked real hard during the rehearsals.

Pointing out that CIU Theater Club has a deep-rooted history of 24 years, Erdikut said, “Many comedies  and musicals have been successfully performed. However, for the first time, we have put on stage this two-person play which we call a one-act psycho-drama.”

Stating that they want to perform this play at a joint event with other schools in June, Erdikut concluded by saying, "We ask those who want to watch our play to stay tuned.”
