CIU continues its applied training activities within the framework of Covid-19 measures

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağ, referring to the fact that the Covid-19 epidemic continues to affect all fields across the world, including higher education, pointed out that especially applied education activities are one of the most problematic areas in this sense.

Advising that the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is acting within the framework of the principles and rules determined by the relevant higher education boards and the university administration, Dağ said that with the spread of the pandemic, hospitals put a stop to accepting interns and in turn, this process was carried over to the digital platform opportunities in the form of distanced learning, and that they have implemented process management to complete training obligations via video simulation education, internship study application file, case analysis and discussions upon publications.

Stating that in the face of this global scale extraordinary situation, it is of great importance to manage processes with dynamic and visionary perspectives, Assoc. Prof. Dağ underlined the need to take effective precautions when it comes to applied trainings, which are included in the education of the Health Sciences programs and hospital clinical internships.

Explaining that hospitals have begun to accept interns with the reduction of the epidemic and that IV. year students have been sent to complete their internships, Dağ went on to say, "The practice of beginning clinical internships has been initiated by displaying maximum respect to the protective measures (infection control and protection measures, such as the absence of students in services with Covid-19), which have been shared with our students both verbally and in writing."

Dağ stated that in this context, plans have been applied such as reducing the duration of the students' stay in the hospitals where they perform their internships, their hospital presence sparser, with concentrated practical applications during certain time intervals, while in the remaining times applications such as video patient case simulation interviews, case studies, project, presentation preparation and homework in the digital environment have been launched.

Stating that CIU students did their internships in state, private and university hospitals and displayed great devotion to the process in question, Dağ explained that this practice will make a great contribution to their graduation as competent and well-equipped dieticians.
