CIU Alumni around the Globe

Rugiatu Kamara, a 2022 graduate of Cyprus International University (CIU) School of Health Sciences, started working as a Paramedic in the Ministry of Health of the West African Republic of Gambia.

CIU graduates continue to be preferred in both TRNC and Turkey as well as other countries due to the competency based education they receive. The First and Emergency Aid (Paramedic) Program of CIU, which started offering  education in the fall semester of the 2015-2016 Academic Year, has produced more than 400 graduates to date.

Not only professional health workers are trained but  life-saving interventions as well as  special training is also provided such as search and rescue and health services in disasters. The CIU First and Emergency Aid Program also organizes joint events with many organizations in various  countries to prepare its students for real life situations.

Kamara stated that she had a different career choice when she first enrolled at CIU, “But when I started my education,  the practical training classes I attended followed by the internships, helped me change my mind and I began to love my profession.”

Kamara added that the internships implemented within the scope of the curriculum were very beneficial. “Our school provided us with all kinds of opportunities in terms of education and student life.” Kamara also stated that thanks to knowing how to intervene in emergencies such as traffic accidents or fires, she was able to practice this in Gambia and sometimes had to transfer patients to other hospitals depending on the situation.”

Kamara concluded  that she has not had any difficulties since she started working at the Ministry of Health and said, "I have not encountered any differences other than a few medical devices we use."
