CIU Academician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökkaya, drew attention to the importance of brotherly love, regardless of religion, language, color, and race
Cyprus International University (CIU), Faculty of Arts and Sciences Academic Staff, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Füsun Gökkaya, stated that Brotherhood Week is celebrated each year between 28th April and 4th May, in order to understand and emphasize the importance of brotherhood, which has an important place in human life, and went on to say, “Although the word sibling is used to describe the relationship between children born to the same parents, it is also used for people with common ties”.
Stating that having reason is the most important feature that distinguishes humans from other living things, Gökkaya continued, “Behaving according to reason brings with it human virtue. Understanding the importance of brotherhood, being able to harbor the love of brotherhood and to act accordingly, are among the behaviors that make people virtuous."
Stating that the concept of brotherhood withholds the necessities of being human, such as treating every person nicely, without discriminating in terms of religion, language, color and race, seeing them as equal to ourselves, being understanding and tolerant, Gökkaya pointed out that supporting eachother by standing by and behind people is the same, even if you are not brothers, to love with the same devotion is one of the important functions of brotherhood.
Explaining that despite the absence of blood connections, as a virtuous community that has a sense of brotherhood, the people of Cyprus have embraced many nations for centuries, Gökkaya elaborated, "The Cypriot people have hosted many nations and cultures, who are humble, warm and who maintain a love for brotherhood."
In his statement, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökkaya wished that the TRNC, a country which reflects the feeling of brotherhood to all the worlds people, regardless of religion, language, and race, would be an example to all other countries, and that all of humanity would never give up on brotherhood under any circumstances, living in peace.
